Additional details on the Jacker piece.

Jacker

A robot called "Jacker" for David Murphy and his comic project. ( http://www.en-mercs.com/ )

Apparently it can hook onto people and control them via central nervous system.

No vid for this one unfortunately.

Master Race

Well, that was fun.

Larger version here and here(minus - no compression)

Vid is up. No music though - audioswap just isn't long enough for this anymore...

Slow Month

Still chugging on the comic. It's taking pretty much all the free time I have and even then it's not like the pages are getting done at any reasonable rate.

Well, I'm hoping the speed will pick up as I get more structured with line drawing.

Nonetheless, I'm extremely optimistic about it.

That is all.

Is this thing still going on?

Yes. Yes it is. It just needs more work, more pages, and more time.

But it will be awesome.

Coming soon (or later).

Way too much time

I'm taking way too much time on this. Gonna leave this one as it is for now and go back doing the comic. I'll probably come back for this one later...

That is all.

Monday, October 8, 2012

okay, a bit more then.

A bit better now I guess?

Shout out if you want to see the piece finished. My motivation is like a spirit bomb.

As for the comic, I'll start serializing once I have all the prologue pages and ready for the main story. So far I'm looking at Smackjeeves but if you know other great places let me know as well.

Oh, that again

Now she's a full cyborg... Although any level of mechanical augmentation is considered a cyborg - you know what I mean.

But yet she still remains unfinished. It's got something to do with my gradually worsening carpal-tunnel hand. And also that I got bored. Maybe I should get people to draw my comic for me. I say that half seriously. Heh.

Oh, and hey, looks like I've some fans after all. I'll keep that in my thought.

That is all.

One Who Sleeps

Actually based on an older piece which I couldn't finish due to lack of skill at the time:

Terrible, terrible foreshortening and overlapping.

1 page of my worst comic page is a million times harder than my best illustration... But it's something I'm dying to do so I shall persist. Maybe I'll serialize early to give myself a motivation boost to speed up.

Not that anyone was interested to hear or anything.

That is all.

Black Widow Peach

Something fun for all ages. Click here for larger pic.

As with most of my work, this one's been brewing for quite some time and I recently decided to tackle it.

Nothing much to say other than that drawing comic is the hardest thing I've experienced in my life.

That is all.

That piece from before

The detail's gonna take entirely too long for me to really invest the time into it, so I'll leave it here. Maybe I'll get to finishing it some day.

Raeden

A creature called 'Raeden' for David Murphy and his comic project. ( http://www.en-mercs.com/ )

And the vid as promised:

Of course, as usual the audioswap doesn't repeat so the music ends about one third of the way, but oh well. Still better than vid suddenly getting shut down for copyright stuff.

Well, it'll be done some day...

MvC, Skullkickers

I could have posted some of these much earlier but I just wanted to wait until I could put them into this neat little pile.

So, as some of you might know, the Udon/Capcom/Marvel's artbook will be on sale soon and you can snag one for yourself at Amazon.  The neat little thing is that of several Udon and related artists got to contribute, and I got to give my take on the characters. So that's that.

Also I haven't posted last four covers I've done for Skullkickers, which can be seen below.

Skullkickers 15 cover
Skullkickers 16 cover
Skullkickers 17 cover
Skullkickers 18 cover

It's been a pretty good run, I think. Best of luck to whoever will be carrying the next torch on the covers.

Champions of Reason

This is something I've wanted to work on for the longest time, but was unable to due to circumstances at the time. Now that I got around to finally doing it and I'm feeling rather great about it.

This is a depiction of people I intellectually admire. I say admire because it is rather impossible for me to take someone as a hero, looking past their human flaws. But it is their flaws that makes them human, which makes their intelligence all that more admirable.

There are many, many others who didn't make in this art who are just as awesome. They have my appreciation although not on this art.

Alrighty. Moving on.

Edit: As promised, here's the larger PSD file for printing. The art is reduced to 50% of its original size, but it is still sitting at 6566x4128 pixels, which should be plenty for any kind of printing situations.

The only condition for the usage of this artwork is to keep it non-profit. I do not care how or where you use it as long as the condition is met and you have my permission as long as it is so. Just to be clear, by non-profit I mean you may not make any money from my work.

Also if you feel like being extra nice, you may also link back to me (this blog), or credit me when and where you use the piece.

Misc works now live

This category includes many of the fanarts and comic strips I've done over the years.

It's nothing as fancy as portfolio or best of best section updates, but it's an update nonetheless.

Click here to view (or the menu on the right)

That is all.

p.s. I'm out for few days. I'll probably get to fixing the forum once I get back.

I find the most erotic part of a woman...

Some things are just meant to be drawn again.

...Because the first attempt makes you angry when you look at them.

Back to work I am.

p.s. the forum service seems to be crapping out on me. gonna wait a bit more and if it's not back, I'll have to switch the provider.

More en-mercs stuff

For David Murphy and his comic project. ( http://www.en-mercs.com/ )

That is all for today.

Almost fried my head

If you've been keeping up with my tweets, you may know already I've been going through massive backlogs of my work backups and trying to organize them.

Well, after going through about 30k files, removing duplicates and putting them in year-appropriate folder, the whole ordeal was done after nearly a week of shifting stuff around. Now all my older stuffs are neatly organized and are ready to be posted on the blog (I now just need to find a way to present it nicely.)

But the problem with staring at your old works for an extended time is that it affects your brain in a way that you almost literally time travel into your past, when your drawing skill was less effective. Even after I was done with looking through my old stuff, my mind was so taken back to the previous era, I had trouble wrapping my head around how I painted now.

That brings me to another, similar point that I've been unconsciously (or at most semi-consciously) avoiding looking at badly drawn art for quite some time. There's just something about art that is purely cognitive-driven, quite different from other activities such as playing a sport, riding bicycle, and such. You could at some point completely forget to 'draw well' (commonly known as artist's block) and also sometimes to draw well, you just need to change the way you think - as opposed to gradual build-up of skills and strength through training as seen commonly in other more physical activities.

I have been aware of this (self developed) theory thus the reason for one of my artist's commandments, so it's no surprise to me. Rather the big surprise was that my brain almost felt like I was back in time few years ago, not memory-wise, but art mentality-wise.

Because of this, for few days I struggled to bring myself up to date, looking again at my more recent works literally layer-by-layer to figure out what I did now. Even then drawing felt rather unnatural and different.

What to do now?

Well, the only rightful cure I felt was to draw things that gets me going and motivates me. B&A.

I feel pretty fresh now that I've got this out of my system. Although I'm unsure of how back in form I am.

Finally, the moral of the story: For times when you get blocked, either creatively or motively (not a word but I'm making up one now), you gotta have something you consistently enjoy that you can always go back to for a quick sketch or painting, to refresh your brain. If you enjoy drawing it, you will draw it well, and if you draw it well, you'll gain your confidence back. And when you're confident, you'll draw even better.

The top piece is based on this older, unfinished piece from 2007 or 2008 when I used to do art series called 'Something' which included series of girls in different settings and themes. This piece was one of the failures that never saw the light of day. Well, until now.

I could literally spend next few years just re-doing all my old unfinished pieces. The entertainment value I get out of these are almost endless.

Anyways, now the B&A is out of the way (for now), I've some work to get back to...

That is all.

Open Pandora

Over 5 years in the making, with first unit finally being available few years ago, I've been dying to get my hands on one of these babes since.

The problem has been that there are only about 2 thousand of these in the wild, with the first batch going to the most patient of all, but the mass manufacturing has begun as of late March.

Well, I'm now on the preorder again and with production finally kicking in, I just might get one within few months.

By today's standards it's starting to show its age, but hell, playing Mame, CPS2, NeoGeo and Playstation on the go WITH D-pad control? Full desktop machine in the palm of your hand?

Still awesome.

And this is how I express my joy:

Also other previous versions (4 years ago)

That is all.

P.S. Follow me on twitter, go talk on my forums, etc. Because I love the attention and I would love nothing more than these etc etc.

Blog renewal

As you might have noticed, I've been making some changes to my blog. I'm making overhauls to browsing system so my old works can be viewed easily. I've added some fancy looking menus, added some contents and I'm proud to say...
'Portfolio' section is now LIVE. (click the menu or this link to view)

While the section isn't complete per se, due to the fact that some of the works I didn't post are just quick color jobs, or I forgot their existence... But other than those minor stuff, it's a fairly comprehensive collection of commercial works I've ever done so far.

Now, other things are on the table as well. I still need to get all other sections finished, but I haven't time for now... I'll come back to it soon.

Take a look, and let me know if everything's working fine, or if you somehow recognize that one of my professional work is missing (because you're such a big fan of mine), then let me know too.

Also I'll be making some background art, as well as a header art to compliment the blog. hopefully by the end, my blog won't look like such a clusterfuck.

Oh.. and yeah, follow me on twitter https://twitter.com/#!/Saejinoh

Humanity's future depends on it.

p.s. the discussion forum and Q&A forum is such a mess... anyone know a free, web based forum hosting service that's halfway decent?

Going through some old stuff

Above piece is dated @ September 22nd of 2008, just after midnight.

You know you're on the right path when the foundational philosophy for your Art and artistry remains unchanged.

Just getting a bit sentimental looking through some old works. :)

While we're on the subject of foundational philosophy...

Let's see if I can organize and expand on the old artist's commandments I made for myself to follow, kinda as a testament to how my thought process holds up. If reading long-ass stuff on Art and Art philosophy is your thing, click below to continue.

Will I ever finish it?

Probably not...

Harvest 74

Remember me?

It's a rework of the piece I did back in 2008.

Well, that was fun.

Also, video.

It probably will be a while until the vid is processed and goes live... No music yet since the vid is not live for audioswap. I'll probably do that tomorrow.

That is all.

Harvest 73

For David Murphy and his comic project. ( http://www.en-mercs.com/ )

Still got 8 more pieces left for the project... of 20... which I received back in 2009...

Well, at least by the end the pieces will look amazing due to progressing skillz.

Also, video:

If there's no music it's because Youtube is taking time to process it...

Harvest 72

Haven't done one of these in a while... Kinda impossible to tell if I'll be doing these as a regular thing. This piece only took 50 minutes to paint but the recorded file ended up being at around 2 gigs @ 2560X1440 resolution and 3FPS. More serious painting often end up taking upwards of 5+ hours so that's around 10 gigs minimum... Very unappetizing.

Well, I'll see how it goes.

Something quick and happy to vent out

And back to busting out these stuff...

I'd be lucky if I can get like 10 pages a month at this rate. lol.
